On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I am pleased to welcome you to the outstanding Indiana University School of Nursing, Fort Wayne campus (IUSON-FW) formally known as the Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne, (IPFW) Department of Nursing. We were named the IUSON-FW July 1, 2018. We are located approximately 126 miles north of our core campus that houses the world renown Indiana University SON. The Fort Wayne campus is nestled in the second largest city in the state of Indiana, which is undergoing tremendous urban growth. Recently, Fort Wayne was named the most “affordable city” and “best place to retire” in the U.S. The School of Nursing is one of four IU educational programs on the Indiana University Fort Wayne campus committed to advancing academic excellence. The IUSON-FW is on the move. We have plans to grow our programs to ensure we continue to prepare an excellent workforce for the Fort Wayne area and beyond.
The faculty are world class national leaders in nursing who are known for using innovative learning strategies and are deeply embedded in the community. The School manages a Title X clinic and has over 37 plus full-time/part-time stellar faculty who are outstanding educators, scholars and clinicians. The School educates a diverse group of 349 undergraduate students through a traditional bachelors’ program and 202 pre-nursing students and have 14 students enrolled in the growing on-line RN-BSN program. We boast an NCLEX pass rates ranging from 95%-100% and we have in house, outstanding knowledgeable academic advisors who are responsible for recruiting outstanding students and implementing strategies for successful matriculation. Finally, I am so proud of our administrative staff and our Coordinators of Simulation Technology and Clinical Performance who are so integral to the operations of the school.
Recently, the School received state funding to renovate the Simulation Center with “State of the Art” acquisition of EchoMasks, custom-made life-like masks created by advanced 3D printing. In September, the School attained a new, high-tech simulation mannequin to better prepare students for life after graduation. These EchoMasks, that simulate different ages, races and sexes, are intended for use on the mannequin to enhance emotional learning modality for IU Fort Wayne nursing students.
Additionally, we are currently developing plans to offer an accelerated BSN program and graduate studies on Fort Wayne campus. The IUSON-FW is the largest School of the IUFW health science programs, and the demand for our programs is well known. Nursing ranks #1 as a trusted health profession and attending IUSON-FW will ensure your readiness to join the ranks of 4.0 million nurses nationwide. Finally, I am grateful for the School of Nursing’s External Advisory and Community Advisory Boards. The Boards ensure we are meeting both our long and short-term strategic goals. We are pleased you chose us and invite you to consider joining the ranks of others who have become part of the IU School of Nursing Fort Wayne experience!
