Biographical statement
Professor Shank graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a B.S. in Nursing in 2006 and earned her MSN in Nursing Leadership and Management in 2016 from Western Governors University. She has over 10 years of experience as a bedside and charge nurse in several clinical areas including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, Pacemaker/ICD Clinic, and Neonatal Intensive Care. She has also had the opportunity to provide instruction for a hospital-based Nurse Residency program in her role as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner. Professor Shank currently teaches the senior-level Nursing Synthesis course, along with Nursing Leadership and Pediatric clinical sections and has taught sections of Health Care Delivery Systems, Medical/Surgical Nursing, OB clinical, and the RN-BS Capstone course. Her research interests relate to transition to practice, active learning strategies, and leadership, and she enjoys utilizing innovative teaching/learning strategies and developing methods to equip and support nursing students in their transition to professional practice.
