Maria Hines is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University Fort Wayne. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing with a minor in psychology from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Ct. and a Master’s of Science degree in nursing leadership with a concentration in nursing education from Ball State University, Muncie, IN. She is currently pursuing her DNP at Indiana Wesleyan University with a December 2018 graduation. She is a certified critical care nurse (CCRN) and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.She has worked in various roles in nursing including critical care, burns, maternity, and quality improvement as well as teaching nursing in an ASN program for 25 years. Hines was instrumental in developing and teaching a service learning clinical course to an impoverished area of Eastern Kentucky and the clinical courses that served in the barrios of the Dominican Republic. She has presented at international and regional conferences.
Currently working on DNP practice project entitled Stop the Vape: Addressing E-cigarette Use Among Youth. Her areas of interest include tobacco cessation, transcultural nursing, health policy, nursing leadership, and health disparities/population health.
