Note for transfer students
Proof of English proficiency is required for transfer students whose native language is not English and who have not completed a college-level English composition course with a grade of C or above.
How to demonstrate English proficiency
The most common way of demonstrating English proficiency is through standardized exams, such as:
- Certificate of completion of the ELS Language Center program level 112.
- TOEFL (school code: 6907).
- IELTS. A scanned copy of your score report is acceptable.
- PTE Academic.
- SAT (school code: 6907) or ACT (school code: 1764). Although you are not required to take the ACT or SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) as an international student, taking one of these exams will enhance your chances of securing admission.
- STEP/EIKEN results.
- British Ordinary Level English Language Exam (GCE/GCSE/IGCSE). Submit the original or a certified true copy of your certificate.

Minimum score requirements
- TOEFL Paper: 550
- TOEFL Internet: 79
- IELTS Overall Band Score: 6.5+
- PTE Academic: 58
- STEP/EIKEN: Grade Pre-1
- O Level: Grade of C or above in First-Language English
- ELS Language Center: Completion of level 112
- SAT (new): 25 on Reading
- SAT (old): 450 on Critical Reading
- ACT: 20
Are you exempt from proving your English proficiency?
If you’re coming from a country where English is the official first language, you are not required to submit proof of English proficiency. If you’re from one of the countries in the following list, you may take the self-placement exam that is required of domestic students.
